Registration includes being able to attend keynotes, featured sessions and workshops spanning 11 thematic tracks. Those who plan to attend the sessions outside of March 8 will need to register for the conference and festival ahead of time. "Attendees will have the chance to connect with professionals in the education space from around the world while interacting with more than 60 one-of-a-kind exhibits and presentations on a range of topics impacting how we learn, teach and engage," Stein said. SXSW EDU has nearly 400 sessions on tap covering a wide variety of subjects and formats from early childhood education and design-based learning to musical performances and fast-paced competitions, said Liz Stein, SXSW EDU press and publicity spokesperson.

Over the next several years, SXSW EDU continued to grow, evolving into the SXSW EDU Conference & Festival. The organization also saw an opportunity to showcase the amazing technology that was being created to support education and launched the inaugural SXSW EDU Launch program (formerly LAUNCHedu), an education entrepreneurs’ competition to provide a vibrant forum for early-stage startups.
Given its alignment to innovation, SXSW EDU saw an increase in attendees, with numbers reaching more than 2,000 and representation from across the country. In 2012, the national education dialogue shifted to a focused effort on digital learning and edtech became a more common term and burgeoning industry. From its inaugural event in March 2011 in collaboration with the Texas Education Agency in support of Project Share, a statewide learning environment, to its expansion to one of the largest learning festivals in the world, SXSW EDU has always been forward-looking in nature and community built.
